The Annual Meeting of Compendium Project National Author’s, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of “the Cultural policies in Europe: compendium of basic facts and trends” (http://www.culturalpolicies.net/web/index.php), - a joint project of the Council of Europe and the ERICarts Institute, a unique information and monitoring system on cultural policy instruments, measures and debates and on cultural trends in Europe, - to be held in Baku on 4 and 5 December 2008. Taking place immediately after Baku Conference of Ministers responsible for Culture (2-3 December 2008) on the theme of “Intercultural dialogue as a basis for peace and sustainable development in Europe and its neighbouring regions”, which is organizing a few months after the adoption and launch of the “White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue” and following-up of the Third Summit of Heads of State and Government in 2005, as well as the implementation of the “Faro Strategy” for developing intercultural dialogue, the Annual Meeting of Compendium Project National Author’s will offer an important opportunity for discussions and implementation decisions and instruments adopted at ministerial level on the promotion of human rights, democracy and the rule of law through intercultural dialogue and cultural policy. Basing on the iinterregional specifics of Azerbaijan, coming out of its geographic situation, social-political aspirations, historical-cultural traditions, contributed historically to the transmission of this region into the place of the East and the West as well as the South and the North meeting, being an only state member both of the Council of Europe and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the modern Republic of Azerbaijan has a native mission to bring close these great civilizations and we call it “Baku Process”. In the framework of Baku Process there was decided by Directorate of Culture and Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan to invite to the Baku Annual Meeting of Compendium Project National Author’s a number of eminent researchers from the ISESCO member states in order to explore the opportunities to broaden geographically “the Cultural policies in Europe: compendium of basic facts and trends” Project area of analysis and develop it into real global network on cultural policy researches and examine new approaches to intercultural dialogue and opportunities for future trans-national co-operation. |
