08.02.2018 10:07 Number of tourists increases by 17% in Azerbaijan in JanuaryThe number of tourists who visited Azerbaijan in January 2018 exceeded 185,000 people, which is 17 percent more compared to January 2017, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism said in a message Feb. 7. Most of the visitors are Russian tourists (59,990 people), Georgian tourists (45,679 people), Turkish tourists (24,276 people), Iranian tourists (13,437) and UAE tourists (8,265 people). Meanwhile, 82 percent of foreign tourists who visited Azerbaijan in January accounted for those who arrived from those five countries. The number of tourists from Kuwait (540 percent), Pakistan (316 percent), India (234 percent) and Qatar (167 percent) increased by 5,720 people (21 percent of total growth) in January 2018 compared to January 2017. Among foreign citizens who visited Azerbaijan, 130,118 people (69.9 percent) accounted for men, 55,795 people (30.1 percent) - women. ..
18.10.2017 17:43 Baku hosts Caspian Energy Tourism ForumKey issues and problems of the tourism sector have today been discussed in Baku at the special session of the Caspian Energy Tourism Forum, organized by the Caspian European Club and Caspian American Club and attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Nazim Samadov. Addressing the business forum, Nazim Samadov told the attendees about the measures currently implemented to boost a further development of the tourism sector of the country, spoke about plans and prospects. Nazim Samadov thanked the management team of the Club for providing the platform for an effective dialogue between the state and entrepreneurs. He stressed the ministry is always open for discussions with entrepreneurs and public organizations representing them. Nazim Samadov noted that the post-oil era in Azerbaijan has been experiencing revival in many sectors of the non-oil sector in recent years, including tourism. “Of course, it is the result of the government’s target-oriented that has been carried out for many years to develop the non-oil sector,” he said. Speaking about statistic data, Nazim Samadov informed that the inflow of tourists into the country was fixed over the last two years. According to him, the number of foreign tourists who visited Azerbaijan in 2015 increased by 11.7% in 2016 and reached 2,248,800 people. “Compared to the same period of the last year, the number of foreign citizens, who arrived in Azerbaijan within the first 9 months of 2017, increased by 20.9% - up to 2,071,918 people. The highest increase was in the number of tourists from Russia, Iran, UAE and Iraq,” the Deputy Minister noted. Nazim Samadov also stressed the importance of conduction of Baku Shopping Festival, noting that the overall budget spent on the conduction of the festival did not exceed 1mln AZN, while the sum allocated by the state budget totaled 5.6mln AZN. At the end of the event Nazim Samadov spoke about the plan to create a national tourism quality system in order to raise the satisfaction level of tourists. This is system will be based on the Strategic “Road Map” for the development of the specialized tourism industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan. “In this regard, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism continues working over the national tourism quality system,” he said. The meeting attendees specified the areas for expanding cooperation with the private sector and discussed issues of interest to the member companies of the Caspian European Club and Caspian American Club. First Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Caspian European Club and Caspian American Club Telman Aliyev thanked the Ministry of Tourism for the constructive dialogue, as well as for the prompt reaction and active participation in addressing the problems of businessmen and member companies of the Caspian European Club and Caspian American Club. Telman Aliyev recalled that the Club was established in June 2002 with the support of the largest oil and gas companies operating in the Caspian-Black Sea region. The first-ever Baku Shopping Festival held this spring offered its participants a whole lot of options: shopping, entertainment, food and street performances. Many city malls offered special discounts, Tax Free, and temporary pop-up shops presented a broad range of Azerbaijani and foreign brands. Now, Baku gets ready for the second Shopping Festival, a 30-day shopping extravaganza that will offer customers discounts, entertainment and street performances. Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev said that the autumn festival is scheduled for October 15-November 15 The shopping centers of the capital city will provide customers with discounts during this period, the minister said adding that 700,000 manats were spent on the organization of the first Shopping Festival. The first Festival was held between April 10 and May 10, when numerous shopping centers of the city offered special discounts to the guests, trade points of Azerbaijan and a number of foreign countries were represented on the large scale in points of temporary trade. During the festival, lotteries were organized and bonus cards were issued. Citizens of Azerbaijan and foreign tourists could use the Tax Free system when buying goods worth 100 manats ($58.8) or more. Besides discounted shopping, there were other activities for travelers like music concerts, fashion shows, children’s events and lots more to double the fun. As many as 205 stores joined the first Baku Shopping Festival, and 172 of them took part in the VAT refund program. Some 1.8 million manats ($1.06 million) of VAT were refunded to customers at the Baku Shopping Festival.
